Our Reinstate Sash service restores the original character to your home. Replacing ugly box sash window conversions with stylish wooden double hung replica sashes.
Reinstating sash windows to their original double hung operation will restore the original charm to your period home. Over the years many heritage sash windows have undergone various conversions such as fitting uPVC, aluminium, louver, pivot or casement window sub-frames. Fortunately the original box frame is often left intact and we can undo the conversion and reinstate them into a fully functioning, single or double glazed, sliding sash window.
Original features such as period windows and doors add financial value to homes and help houses sell more quickly.
After removing the existing window conversion we fit a replacement balance system including new pulleys, cords & weights. We undertake repairs and install our authentic replica wooden sashes into your existing timber frames, paint finished with either single glazing or double glazed with energy efficient (low E) glass.
All of our draught seals are designed to be as unobtrusive as possible, being machined into the timber components to become an “invisible” part of the window. The original heritage appearance of the property is restored with all the benefits of modern windows
Historic windows and doors make a major contribution to the significance and character of historic buildings and so every effort should be made to reinstate them.
If the original box frame was removed then a complete window replacement is required.
At Sash Window Specialist we understand the charm of traditional wooden windows which is why all of our work is designed to be as original as possible.
Bespoke Wooden Replicas

Sash Window Weather Stripping
We have been using the same top quality British made draught seals for over 20 years. Weatherpile brush draught seals are the best option for long life in a sliding sash window.

Our Reinstate Sash Service includes:
Sealing draughts in your home will return significant savings in heating and cooling costs, as up to 25% of heat is lost via air leakage in a typical home.
Single glazing contributes to energy loss by allowing heat to conduct directly through the glass. Double glazing overcomes energy conduction by introducing an air space between two panes of glass. Our double glazing units are also filled with an inert gas, such as Argon, which further extends the insulation performance.
One of the panes used in our double glazed insulating units is low emissivity, energy efficient glass. Low e glass has a special insulating surface that reduces the amount of radiant heat transfer.
How Does low-emissivity glass work?
Low-e glass has a special coating which is a poor radiator of heat and does not allow heat to be transferred through the glass. In winter, heating is reflected back indoors; in summer heat from the
sun is reflected away, keeping the room cooler.
Draught-stripping your existing period sash windows can reduce the draughts by almost 90%, and is an essential step to improving energy efficiency in period windows.
Heat loss through single glazed windows is in excess of 25%.
Wood is a natural insulator
The natural insulating properties of timber make this an extremely energy efficient building material. Timber window frames are highly energy efficient as they do not conduct heat.
Timber windows help to lower your carbon foot print.
Wood is a sustainable building material, derived from a renewable source. Any home owner choosing green living should consider preserving or reinstating timber windows.
In order to grow, one kilogram of wood needs about 1.55 kilogrammes of carbon dioxide from the air, the carbon of which is stored in the tree. About half of timber is carbon. A rule of thumb is that 1 cubic metre of wood stores 1 tonne of CO2.
Windows are a favourite entry point for burglars
Various catches effectively bring the sashes into a locked position, however the screws holding these in place are small and these catches should not be considered an effective security measure. We have a range of sash window security options available. We also supply a wide range of sash window furniture, available in variety of finishes.
