Scottish sash windows often differ from the English varieties. Staff beads are a slightly different shape and commonly called sash rods. Parting beads are a more substantial 14mm thick. Simplex systems that enable the lower section of the window to be hinged, for easy cleaning and exit purposes, are far more common.
